VARIACIONES PARA LOS CONDICIONALES

TYPE 1 PROBABLE CONDITION

Possible variations of the basic form:

a. Variations of the main clouse:

1. MAY/MIGHT (posibility)
If the fog gets thicker the plane may/might be diverted.

2.MAY (permisssion) or CAN (permission or ability)+inf
If your documents are in order you may/can leave at onee.

3. MUST/SHOULD/ or any expression of command, request or advice.
 If you want to lose wight  you must/should eat less bread.
If yot see Tom tomorrow, colud you ask him to ring me?.

4. IMPERATIVE FORM
If you want to lose weight, eat less bread.
(siempre se deja en presente)

5.PRESENT TENSE: to express automatic or haitual results.
(Tipe 0, so called in some text books).
If you heat ice, it turns to water.
 PRESENT + PRESENT (para verdades universales).


TIPE 2

Possible variations of the basic form:

a. Variations of the main clouse:

1. MYGHT/COLUD + INF
If you tried again you might/could succeed.

2.CONTINUOUS CONDITIONAL FORM
Peter is on holiday; he istouring Italy.
I were on holiday I wolud / might be touring Italy too.


TIPE 3 IMPOSSIBLE (PASADO)

a. Variations of the main caluse:

1. MIGHT/ COLUD + HAVE PART
If we had found him earlier we could have saved his life.

2.PERFECT CONDICIONAL CONTINUOS FORM
At the time of the accident / was sitting in the back of the car, because Tom´s little boy was sitting beside him in front. If Tom´s boy had not been there/would have been sitting in front.



  • A combination of types 2 and 3 arre possible:
The plane I intended to catch crashed and everyone was killed.
If I had caught that plane I would be dead now or.

If I had caught the plane, I would have died.


  • Had can be placed first and if  omitted (very formal)
  • If you had obeyed orders this disaster would not have happened.
  • Had you obeyed orders this disaster would not have happened.
